Hocking Valley Community Hospital is pleased to announce that Beth Kluding, MHA, BSN, RN, CCM, has been selected as the new Chief Nursing Officer.

Kluding began her professional career at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio, as an LPN. She became an RN in 2012 and continued her career first as Director of Patient Experience and then as Director of Case Management and Care Coordination with Firelands. Beth volunteers as a nurse at the Loraine Free Clinic. She obtained her BSN and Masters in Healthcare Administration from Ohio University. She started her new role at HVCH in April.

“Beth will bring to HVCH expertise in patient satisfaction and quality as well as in-depth knowledge of utilization and case management in a variety of clinical areas,” HVCH President & CEO Stacey Gabriel said.

Kluding was born in California, grew up in Texas, and moved to Ohio her senior year of high school. She and her family are relocating to the Logan area.

“I am looking forward to learning about HVCH and its community, and see where I can positively impact the employees and patients. Over the past few weeks, I have been watching how the members of the HVCH participate in schools and various groups. This is in line with my belief of how a community and hospital should be connected, and I am looking forward to helping this to continue,” Kluding said.

LOGAN – Hocking Valley Community Hospital has added an orthopedic surgeon to its staff, Mark Holt, M.D.

Dr. Holt specializes in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. His office is located at 31490 Chieftain Dr., Logan, with fellow orthopedic surgeon Dr. Matthew Kauffman.

“We are excited to have Dr. Holt as part of our medical staff. His experience and knowledge will be a great addition to the orthopedic team. Dr. Holt is very much looking forward to providing orthopedic care to the residents of Hocking and surrounding counties,” Stacey Gabriel, Chief Nursing Officer, said.

Dr. Holt has lived in Ohio for the past 45 years. He received his doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his residency at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals Department of Orthopedics in Cleveland. His sports medicine fellowship training was completed at the University of Wisconsin Division of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Holt has been in practice in the Newark and Coshocton areas since 1993, most recently at the Coshocton County Memorial Hospital Orthopedic Clinic. He is licensed by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He has been a guest lecturer and physician consultant for several different events.

“For years, my wife and I have enjoyed coming to the Hocking Hills area to hike and stay in some of the cabins. Recently, I contacted the hospital to see if there was any interest in bringing another orthopedic surgeon to the area. I have now joined Dr. Kauffman in providing orthopedic surgery services to the community,” Dr. Holt said. “I am happy to be in Logan and look forward to meeting new patients.”

Orthopedic surgeons treat the musculoskeletal system, including injuries and diseases of the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. Treatments can include joint replacements, arthroscopies, fracture repairs, and carpal tunnel surgeries.

Dr. Holt is now accepting patients of all ages. Patients may call (740) 385-8474 to set up an appointment or to see if referral is needed from another doctor.

LOGAN – Hocking Valley Community Hospital will host its 1st Annual Community Holiday Affair in celebration of its 50th anniversary on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

“This is sure to be one of the largest community events this season,” said CEO and President Julie Stuck.

Community guests are invited to enjoy holiday carols performed in both indoor and outdoor settings. The entertainment includes:

  • 5:00 p.m. – Logan High School Chamber Singers
  • 5:30 p.m. – First Presbyterian Church Handbell Choir
  • 6:00 p.m. – Sing-along carols at the Auxiliary Celebration of Lights Ceremony in the HVCH courtyard
  • 6:30 p.m. – Hocking County Children’s Chorus
  • 7:00 p.m. – Logan-Hocking Middle School Swing Choir

Those attending also will enjoy a gingerbread house competition exhibit with creations designed by local businesses and individuals. If you or your employer is interested in participating in this competition, click here.

Other art exhibits presented that evening include: Doodle Bugs Art Class, Logan Elementary Art Class, Can Do Creations through Hocking Valley Industries/Board of DD, Holiday Dried Herb Gifts/Décor Exhibit by Hocking County OSU Extension Office, Hocking County Family & Children First Council Photography Group and the Hocking Valley Photography Group.

This year, the HVCH Auxiliary’s Celebration of Lights will be held in conjunction with the Holiday Affair, with the tree lighting ceremony located in the hospital’s outdoor courtyard. For information on how to honor/memorialize a loved one during this ceremony, please contact Beth Bell at (740) 380-8154 or email bbell@hvch.org.

Children will have an opportunity to write a letter to Santa and drop it in the “Letters to Santa” mailbox. In partnership with The Logan Daily News, the hospital is an additional drop-off point for wish-list letters this year. Santa’s mailbox is located under the main front lobby canopy of the hospital and will remain there throughout the season to receive any last-minute letters.

Finally, children will not want to miss out on talking with Santa himself during the evening’s festivities. Parents are encouraged to bring cameras and take a picture of their child as time permits. Refreshments are provided.

“One might ask why a hospital is hosting a community holiday event. For many of us, our daily lives are full of hurriedness, stress and frustration, all things that can contribute to poor health,” Stuck said. “As the leading healthcare organization in our community, we consider hosting this event for families and friends to gather together and share a few moments of happiness in a safe location as one more way of nurturing the emotional health and well-being of our community. We are excited to share the upcoming holiday season together. This is one more example of how Hocking Valley Community Hospital is Leading the Way to a Healthier Community.”

Hocking Valley is a community non-profit hospital with an emergency department, urgent care and a wide variety of clinical, specialty and outpatient services. For more information, contact the Community Relations office at (740) 380-8336.
