Hocking Valley Medical Group and Hocking Valley Community Hospital Foundation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Hocking Hills Chamber of Commerce for the new HVCH Foundation Medical Complex at 1383 W. Hunter St., Logan. The building is now home to all HVMG family, pediatric and psychiatric providers.

Speakers for the evening were Andy Good, Hocking Hills Chamber of Commerce Executive Director; Roy Davis, HVCH Director of Growth & Business Development; Fallon Magdich-Ritchey, HVMG Nurse Practitioner; and Stacey Gabriel, HVCH President & CEO

. A special flag raising ceremony was conducted by the American Legion with Logan High School Assistant Band Director Benjamin Wright playing the “Reveille” Trumpet Call. The HVCH Department of Nutrition prepared the refreshments.

“This is such an exciting time for the medical group, the hospital, and the patients that we serve,” Gabriel said. “Until about a month ago, the medical group occupied eight different locations, however today, with the support of the Hocking Valley Community Hospital Foundation, we were able to reduce that to three locations.”

HVCH Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the hospital. Formed in 1980, the Foundation has supported HVCH in various ways including capital projects such as building the Medical Arts Center to house medical professionals, partially funding a surgical wing expansion, electrical upgrades, medical equipment for various departments, and more recently, the purchase of new exercise equipment for the HVCH and Osburn Associates, Inc. walking trail. The Foundation also donated funds for new equipment and information technology infrastructure in the new building. These funds are made available from donations to the Foundation from individuals and organizations in the community.

“Two individuals in particular are largely responsible for the HVCH Foundation Medical Complex – those two individuals are George and Elly Crow,” Gabriel said. “George and Elly certainly had a love for Hocking Valley Community Hospital. As a young woman in her twenties, Elly watched as her mother Lillian Rheinscheld Winters Hildabolt participated as the only female on the planning committee for the current site of Hocking Valley Community Hospital. Elly was a TWIG II member and past president, as well as a Hocking Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary Member and past president. For 21 years, Elly was the Chairman for the Hocking Valley Community Hospital Foundation Auction Committee and a member of the Hocking Valley Community Foundation Golf Committee. George could be seen in attendance of the auction and golf outing each year, showing his support for the hospital and their mission. They have left a legacy that will live on for many years to come. Words cannot describe the impact their contribution will have on patient care provided in this community.”

The HVCH Foundation raised nearly $45,000 gross revenue during its annual charity auction and golf outing on Friday & Saturday, July 13-14.

The annual event was held at the Hocking Hills Golf Club in Hocking County, and welcomed community members, partners, employees and tourists to what has become a much anticipated weekend event.

“This is definitely becoming a very popular event in Hocking County,” Latricia Johnston, HVCH Chief Public Relations Officer, said. “We found ourselves hunting for additional tables and chairs to provide seating for everyone in attendance. That’s a good sign the Foundation’s mission to make a significant impact on patient care in this community is being heard. Our Foundation Board, Auction and Golf Committees are committed to raising charitable funds to support Hocking Valley Community Hospital, and once again worked very hard to provide a fun and entertaining event that serves a greater cause.”

Over the past 32 years, the event has raised more than $1.5 million for charitable purposes at HVCH.

The auction this year featured a summertime fun theme with more than 80 items to help families make the most of their summer vacation including trips, beach accessories, household items, art, event tickets and much more.

“We realize that our donors work hard everyday, so most of these items were grouped together in packages to allow guests to bid on items that would provide opportunities for rest and relaxation – all part of a good wellness program,” Johnston said.

Additionally, attendees were provided entertainment from Dr. Dan Stambaugh playing oldies, classic rock and country hits. SAM FM Radio 98.3 also played music at the auction during their live remote. Returning this year was auctioneer Steve Green of Green & Green Auctioneers from Sunbury, Ohio. HVCH Board Members Brad Little, Kyle Walker and Matt Mahaffey assisted the auctioneer.

“People came with the understanding of the reason for this event and gave very generously,” Stacey Gabriel, HVCH President and CEO, said. “I could not be more proud of our community. To see so many people come together and support the vital role of the HVCH Foundation was amazing. Each person or organization that contributed items for bid, made a purchase, or entered a golf team has made a healthy difference in the lives of many, and for that I am grateful,” Gabriel said.

Throughout the year, many businesses and organizations have partnered with the Foundation through the Leading the Way Annual Partnership Program. Partners were recognized during the auction and golf events, and will continue to receive recognition throughout the year. Partners also can receive other benefits including catered luncheons, print and broadcasting opportunities to expose their organization. This year, community businesses have donated almost $30,000 in partnerships. It is not too late to join the HVCH Foundation partner program for 2019; interested individuals may call 740-380-8336 to learn more.

This year’s $1,000 ball drop winner was Bob Clark with lucky ball #585. Golf tournament raffle winners were: Ginger Johnson, one pizza per month for a year at Pizza Crossing; Janel Bush, $100 Sharff’s gift card; Karla Good, $100 Hawk’s Nest gift card and Crystal Fizer, two-nights stay at Oakwood Cabins.

HOCKING VALLEY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL RECEIVES GRANT FROM ALADDIN SHRINERS

LOGAN – Pediatric patients who visit Hocking Valley Community Hospital’s Physical Therapy Department will soon benefit from new equipment.  On Wednesday, January 24th, Hocking Valley Community Hospital was presented a check for $13,260.00 by local Hocking Hills Shrine Club to purchase new equipment.  “We have supported the hospital for many years,” said Steve Rine, past President of the Shriners club.  “We do a lot of great things to help children who need medical help and this is another great opportunity.”

On hand to help receive the gift was Cart Switzer, Director of Physical Therapy who shared how the equipment would be used to benefit patients at HVCH. “We are so grateful to you for making it possible to purchase this equipment,” said Switzer during the monthly Aladdin Shriners meeting.  “Many of our pediatric patients are frequently challenged when standing, and the EasyStand StrapStand improves their abilities.”  This device will allow healthcare providers to more easily stand a patient during treatment without harm or injury to the therapist or patient. “It can be used on a variety of patients to assist with transfers, promote weight bearing, and improve balance and standing tolerance for patients recovering from injury or illness,” Switzer said.

The grant will also enable HVCH to purchase two Hi Lo Tables for use during therapy in the Outpatient Clinic. Tables have the ability to be lowered to a level of two feet and raised as high as four feet. The flexibility to adjust levels provides significantly easier access to patients of various sizes and physical limitations getting on and off the treatment table safely. It also allows the therapist to raise the patient to a height that is better for treatment necessary for the patient.

Additionally, an Iowa Oral Performance Instrument will also be purchased for use by HVCH speech therapists. “The device is used to measure a patient’s tongue strength, giving a base line measurement during initial evaluation, determining if decreased tongue strength is cause for the patient’s difficulty swallowing and or forming words properly,” Switzer continues.  “It is also used to measure progress of therapy to determine effectiveness of treatments and improvement of tongue strength.”

“We are proud of our Hocking County community when members come together and support our local hospital through grants such as this,” said Latricia Johnston, Chief Public Relations Officer who was also in attendance to receive the donation.  “It speaks volumes that we are in this together.  Our doors at HVCH are open to everyone regardless of their ability to pay for services, and on average we provide over $5 million of unfunded care to the community each year. Those patients need us too, and it is grantmakers like our local Aladdin Shriners, Logan-Holl Foundation, Wal-Mart and others who help make it possible for us to continue leading the way to a healthier community.”

The Shriners have been in establishment since 1870, and are known for their philanthropic support in caring for pediatric patients who have experienced orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate. Over the years, Shriners Hospitals have expanded to an extraordinary health system with 22 facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Hocking Valley is a community non-profit hospital with an emergency department, urgent care and a wide variety of clinical, specialty and outpatient services. For more information, contact the Community Relations office at (740) 380-8336.
